Should I shake hands or go for a hug? Should I kiss or keep distance?
When you meet people from different cultures, the greeting may become awkward.

The picture shows how some people in Ethiopia greet! Sometimes in our workshops we practice a greeting game to get to know each other and usually, people love it! Have you thought why it is important to know each other’s greeting culture?

Greeting is important as the first step of communication and building relationship. Whether in a business or social context knowing how to greet people plays an important role. There are several cultural, religious and personal issues that you should consider before choosing a greeting type.

A kiss on the cheek or shake hands, none of them is better or more right. We are just used to different greetings depending where we are from. So, knowing the cultural issues of greeting in different parts of the world not only makes your communication more effective but also it avoids that awkward or unseemly moment.
